MUNAPHIX — born Ssebanyiga Drake Elvin on 30th March 2005 — is a Ugandan video director, philanthropist, and youth advocate, known for his transformative work in the creative arts and his unshakable commitment to empowering young people from underserved communities.
Raised in the vibrant yet challenging neighborhoods of Makindye Division, Kampala, MUNAPHIX’s humble beginnings shaped his deep passion for change. He pursued his early education in Zana for Nursery and Primary School, and later completed his Secondary Education in Makindye.
His journey into the arts began in 2019 when he founded the Muna Dancers, a dance group that quickly gained attention in Kampala for its energy and originality. This marked the beginning of a greater mission — using art as a vehicle for transformation. MUNAPHIX went on to nurture his creative skills as a video director at Bantu Pro, where he not only grew his talent but also inspired and trained fellow youth in videography and dance, building a community of dreamers with purpose.
His career progressed as he worked with Famous Africa as a video director and colorist, and later at Jahlive Studios, Black Market Records, and Men At Work Records, contributing as a freelance editor, director of photography, and colorist. He gained national recognition in 2022 for his exceptional storytelling and visual style, directing acclaimed music videos such as “Sober” by Omega 256 and Lithan MC, “Musabe” by Pretty Mackie, and winning Best Video of the Year at the VIGA Gospel Music Awards for a song by Twina Herbert.
But MUNAPHIX’s impact goes far beyond screens.
Driven by the vision “We the youth from the slums can change life,” he has become a symbol of hope for many. Refusing to rise alone, he used his growing platform to discover, mentor, and support young talent from neighborhoods like Katwe, Lipanda, and Salama Road. His acts of service include shooting free music videos, offering free recording sessions, and creating platforms for emerging stars to shine.
Among those he empowered are:
• Coolboy – now a renowned child star in Uganda.
• Chestar – currently regarded as one of Uganda’s best Directors of Photography (DOP).
• Joseph Bonte – a thriving video director and tutor at an ICT institute in Buziga.
• Summy Cruz – a rapidly rising music artist making waves in Uganda.
MUNAPHIX is known not just for his charisma and creative vision, but also for his commitment to building a future where youth, no matter their background, believe in the power of their dreams. Through his art and activism, he continues to redefine what’s possible for a generation determined to rise.
